About LYTHAM GIN

OUR STORY

Looking back, creating Lytham Gin feels like an obvious decision.

Sandgrown Spirits is, and always has been, a family business built around a unique combination of skills. Sara, the founder of Lytham Gin, is a chemistry graduate and former teacher who specialised in organic molecules (yes, a real-life Walter White). Her scientific background provided the perfect foundation for developing exceptional spirits and understanding exactly how to bring the best out of every botanical.

Co-founder Paul spent his career specialising in manufacturing processes and systems for one of the world's largest food and beverage companies, bringing invaluable expertise in quality, consistency and production.

Their son, Ben, studied Marketing at university and now leads the company's branding, marketing and creative direction. Together, our combined experience in science, production and marketing has helped shape Sandgrown Spirits into the family-run business it is today.

We often wonder why it took us so long to come up with the idea in the first place.

Creating the business and discovering the incredible variety of flavours, styles and techniques that go into making great spirits has been one of the most exciting and rewarding periods of our lives. Every batch teaches us something new. We're constantly learning, refining and improving, with one simple goal: to create the very best spirits we possibly can.

Unlike many brands, we have no ambition to become a mass-market drinks company. Our focus has always been on producing authentic, small-batch spirits with care, craftsmanship and personality. Every bottle is distilled, bottled and packed with the same attention to detail that we've had since day one.

As a family business, we're incredibly proud of what we've built together and grateful for the support of our customers, stockists and local community. We hope that the passion, authenticity and pride we put into our spirits shine through in everything we do.

Our Sandgrown Spirit

INSPIRED BY THE SEA

You may be wondering why we called our company Sandgrown Spirits. Well, Sandgrown'uns is a term used to refer to people who have been born and raised on the Fylde coast. This beautiful coastline of England was laid down by a glacier at the end of the last ice age and has a plethora of naturally growing botanicals that we take full advantage of.

The varied coastline and natural botanicals in the area inspired our first spirit, Lytham Original Dry Gin. We believe we were the first gin brand to use samphire as a botanical, as it grows in the marshes along the coast, and we take a trip every few months to pick some fresh for our gin. Samphire is what gives our gin a silky smooth mouthfeel.

Our PHILOSOPHY

Sandgrown Spirits is one of the UK’s leading and most awarded craft spirit producers. It all began with a long-held love for the juniper-predominant spirit and a dream to craft the best-tasting gin in the world.

Before crafting the first gin,  our founder Sara Dewhurst spent years sampling different gins from around the world, talking to mixologists and distillers to discover the flavour profiles she wanted to create and share.

Serious about flavour

Whilst our branding is a little playful, Sara is totally serious about flavour, mouthfeel and provenance. As a result, all of our range is unapologetically packed with flavour, using the best possible ingredients, which, where possible, we either grow ourselves or are locally foraged.

As we say, There is a little bit of Lancashire in every drop!

Elsie, our beautiful copper still named after Sara's grandmother, uses a heated water jacket to gently extract as much flavour as possible from the botanicals infused in the finest barley grain spirit.

Serious about quality

Sara uses the skills she gained as an industrial chemist to ensure that each and every batch's botanicals are measured out exactly and distilled perfectly, so that every bottle we produce has the highest quality.

Whilst Paul uses his background in manufacturing processes to make sure, from start to finish, the hand bottling and labelling runs smoothly

Serious about innovation

Every batch is a learning opportunity.

Sara tastes each batch to ensure the flavour remains true to the original recipe, tweaking it to compensate for the variations in the natural ingredients used and as a chance to continuously enhance and improve the flavour profile.
